Modern Foreign Languages

Mrs. M. Kingsbury – Curriculum Leader

The Languages Curriculum aims to:

  • Develop students’ ability to communicate successfully in the target language by instilling confidence in speaking, with accurate pronunciation (Speaking)
  • Develop students’ skills in communicating in writing with increasing accuracy and grammatical knowledge (Writing)
  • Develop pupils’ ability to understand spoken and written texts in a variety of contexts (Listening and Reading)
  • Develop students’ curiosity for and understanding of other people’s way of life, beyond our local community, and breed tolerance, empathy for and appreciation of different cultures and lifestyles
  • Offer insights and a wider perspective on how the UK fits in a forever-expanding global economy, as well as broaden our students’ cultural horizons

Key Stage 3 Curriculum Intent

Students study French at KS3, following a carefully crafted curriculum that covers a range of high-frequency and topic vocabulary, grammar, and cultural elements as per the 3 Pillars of Vocabulary, Phonics and Grammar.

There is also an opportunity to participate in an Enrichment trip to Paris, practising the language learnt in class in a real context and discovering the landmarks of one of the most famous and beautiful cities in the world!

Key Stage 4 Curriculum

At KS4, all students have the opportunity to choose to further their study of French by taking a GCSE. Our exam board is AQA and we follow a curriculum designed to enhance each skill of listening, reading, writing and speaking.
