Personal Development

Testwood School, in partnership with parents, has a vital role in preparing children and young people to negotiate the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly complex world. This presents many positive and exciting opportunities, but also challenges and risks.

Our aim at Testwood is to give our students the best opportunities so that they leave us equipped with all the tools they need to be successful beyond school. We aim to achieve this through the delivery of high-quality lessons to strive for academic excellence and by developing our students’ understanding of how to thrive in modern Britain. We want all our students to be respectful members of society who understand how to live safe, healthy lives.

Along with the teaching of Personal Social and Health education, including Relationship and Sex education, we have a responsibility to help our students understand the British Values of society and immerse them in an SMSC education (spiritual, moral, social and cultural) along with preparing them for life beyond school with a robust Careers programme. As a school, we operate a whole school approach to Personal Development and some appropriate topics are explored through the Pastoral Curriculum during tutor time and assemblies.

At Testwood we truly believe that developing the whole child goes beyond the Academic and Pastoral Curriculum and we strive to give our students as many opportunities to develop their skills and experiences as possible. There are numerous Student Leadership opportunities for students from year 7 through to Year 11 and a variety of enrichment activities and educational visits both local, national and abroad.
